Juan Pierre to the White Sox

Juan PierreChicago White Sox general manager Kenny Williams has done it again. The Chicago Wite Sox have obtained OF Juan Pierre from the Los Angeles Dodgers for for two players to be named later, according to Yahoo! Sports. The Dodgers will also be picking up more than half of Pierre’s salary for the next two years.

Not a bad pick up for the White Sox, given that Pierre played in 145 games for the Dodgers in 2009, batting .308 with 31 RBIs and 30 stolen bases. He received a lot of playing time when Manny Ramirez was suspended for 50 games last year for steriod use.

Hiroki Kuroda And David Wright Are Back At Home

After Saturday night’s game where Hiroki Kuroda took a line drive off his right ear from a 90+ mph fastball, he spent the night in the hospital and was released the following morning. Word id that Kuroda attended Sunday’s game and sat in the visitors clubhouse to watch. He was cleared to fly home with the team, but was diagnosed with a concussion and will have neurological tests on Tuesday. Don’t be surprised if Kuroda misses some time.

David Wright also was hit in the head Saturday by a 93 mph fastball from Matt Cain

…Wright took the pitch right in his left ear. He was down for several minutes and was able to walk off on his own power, but he also spent the night in the hospital and had tests done. The New York Mets are also missing their top players in Carlos Delgado, Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes due to injury, but word was this morning that the Mets are taking no chances with their marquee player in Wright by placing him on the 15 day DL.

Best wishes go out to these two for speedy returns to the diamond.

Two Rookies Come Through For Cardinals

RasmusYesterday St. Louis Cardinals two rookies, center feilder Coby Rasmus and bullpen pitcher Blake Hawksworth, played important roles in beating the San Diego Padres 7-5 and upping their winning streak to four games.

Hawksworth came in and shut down the Padres for two innings, further showing that he might be that missing piece in the bullpen that Tony LaRussa wants for the playoff stretch.

Rasmus clobbered a two-run home run to right to power the Cardinals to the come-from-behind walk-off victory.

Yesterday’s sweep of the Padres is great for the Cardinals who start a seven game road trip out west. Tonight is the first of four games against the Los Angeles Dodgers, followed by three games at Petco Park against the Padres.

Chris Carpenter heads to the mound tonight against young knuckleballer Charlie Haeger.
