The Ship Shumaker Project Kicked Off Yesterday…
…and turned out ok. No errors, no mistakes, but nothing really to knock your socks off. Skip cuaght a popup and a line drive, but no 6-4-3, 4-6-3, or even a groud ball.
He had a lot more action in the lead off position. 2-4, and reaching base three times. No matter what, that is what the Cardinals need from him the most, getting on base. One way or the other, Skip is going to be in the lineup, whether at 2nd base or the outfield. However, if Skip can handle his own at the number 4, it would help out the team tremendouly, given that they are over loaded in the outfield.

Manny Being A Meathead
So Manny being Manny means leaving 25 million dollars on the table for one year. Yahoo! Sports said yesterday that LA offered Manny a one-year, $25 million dollar deal. And who can blame him? Such an offer HAS to be a slap in the face…Whatever.
It has been reported that Manny, who is being represented by Scott Boras, wants a four year, $100 million dollar deal…Whatever.
Ok, let me step back for a second and think this over. Manny wants A-Rod money. Ok. Let’s look at this.
The Yankees made a very calculated move in the A-Rod contract. They are opening up a new stadium, have a very lucrative cable plan that televises the games, and chances are that A-Rod will break the home run record. Sales on A-Rod clothing and other merchandise will go up as time gets closer to that. Plus can can do this little thing of being a COMPLETE ballplayer. From a business standpoint, the Yankees will not lose on this deal.
Now what can Manny offer to the Dodgers? Manny batted .396 with 17 home runs and 53 RBI in 53 games for Los Angeles and hit .520 and hit four more home runs in the playoffs after his trade from Boston. However, he has been known to forget which leg to limp on, complain about not being respected (as if the $180 million dollar contract the Red Sox gave him wasn’t enough respect), and a subpar left fielder. And I do not see “Manny being Manny” jerseys flying off the sales rack. Don’t forget that he will be turning 37 early in the season.
If ANYONE deserves A-Rod money, I think it is Albert Pujols. I said it before, and I will say it again. Cardinals fans better enjoy the last two years of Albert, because they ain’t getting no hometown discount when his contract ends after the next two years. Albert is off to the best start in MLB history. If you don’t believe me, just check his stats against ANY player that ever played. Plus, he just turned 29 last month.
Jay McGwire…
So Mark McGwire’s brother wrote a proposal to submit for a book about the use of steriods of his brother Mark McGwire…and did it out of love. If this book does get published, I will be the first one NOT to buy it.
Who the hell are you to judge another person on how to live? Some ex-musclehead, that probably juiced to compete, who hasn’t spoken with his brother in several years? Yeah, right. I bet you never have been accused of being able to sell water to a whale.
Wonder how long it will take THIS clown to star on some B.S. reality show.
Albert Pujols’ Elbow
I heard been hearing a LOT of discussion over the past few days about Albert’s elbow, both locally and nationally ( I live in St. Louis).
A lot of the talk is coming from fantasy baseball people, on how and where to pick him. To tell you the truth, this is old news to the fan-base in St. Louis, he has had this problem for quite a few years, which I believe is one of the reasons, if not the main reason he was moved to first base. It has been stated by a couple of St. Louis sports reporters that Albert visited to nationally prominent doctors during the off-season, and they both recommended that he can forego surgery at this time, and have limited harm to his playing. He has done it for five seasons already, and thrown up Joltin’ Joe numbers.
I was listening to a sports radio show today, held up in the northeast, and they were talking about why they think the Cardinals are not making Pujols shut it down this season, since the public thought (and I agree) is that the Cardinals really do not have a chance for post season this year. Now most of there thinking made sense to me, however I had to disagree with one.
They stated that the Cardinals organization had to think what was best for the business, meaning that they would need Pujols to put fans in the seat. Living here for 20 years now, and knowing what the fan base is like her, I must disagree.
Cardinal fans will ALWAYS come to the game, pure and simple. They are like the Cubs or the Red Sox. The fan base is her, and it will always be here.
